COVID-19 Fit for Overseas Travel Certificate: £125

PCR Swab Test and Certificate

For individuals needing to travel during the COVID-19 pandemic some overseas destinations have imposed strict quarantine regulations for anyone entering, typically requiring a 14 day isolation period.

However, in some countries the quarantine requirement is waived if the passenger is holding a valid COVID-19 Certificate of Testing which shows there is no evidence of current COVID-19 (SARS-CoV-2) infection.

Please check with your destination to see if they are accepting COVID-19 Test Certificates. Importantly, check how long before departure the test must be undertaken so your appointment is booked for the correct day.

If you believe you are infected with COVID-19 you do not need to pay for this service and can organise a free NHS test at the following link:

What will the PCR test tell me

This test will check for current COVID-19 infection and tell you if you are currently infected.

How does it work

The PCR test detects the genetic material in the virus called RNA. When the sample reaches the lab, a solution known as a ‘reagent’ is added to it. If there is virus present this reagent starts a ‘chain reaction’ and creates billions of copies of the genetic material in the virus so that there is enough that it can be detected and analysed by scientists to provide a positive result. This test is also known as an RNA, genetic, molecular, viral detection or swab test.

Can the test be done at home

The test cannot be done at home to certify fitness to travel. A PCR swab test can ONLY be undertaken by a healthcare professional at Medwyn Occupational Health’s clinic based in Dorking, with validated photographic ID such as a driving license or passport

How long do results take

The laboratory turnaround time is officially 48 hours from receiving your swab in the lab. We have a same day courier service to our UKAS accredited laboratory in London providing you with the confidence and assurance of a high-quality testing service. Results are typically returned inside 36-48 hours from your clinic appointment time.

Please be aware that the laboratory is currently processing high numbers of requests and as a result there may occasionally be a delay in results being sent to us.  We cannot refund any costs should the results be delayed due to circumstances outside of our control.
