COVID-19 Fit for Overseas Travel Certificate: £140

PCR Swab Test and Fit for Overseas Travel Certificate from a UK Government approved provider

For individuals needing to travel during the COVID-19 pandemic some overseas destinations have imposed strict quarantine regulations for anyone entering, typically requiring a 7-14 day isolation period.

However, in some countries the quarantine requirement is waived if the passenger is holding a valid COVID-19 Certificate of Testing which shows there is no evidence of current COVID-19 (SARS-CoV-2) infection. This can only be issued by a UKAS registered, Government approved provider such as Medwyn OH.

Please check with your destination to see if they are accepting COVID-19 Test Certificates. Importantly, check how long before departure the test must be undertaken so your appointment is booked for the correct day.

If you believe you are infected with COVID-19 you do not need to pay for this service and can organise a free NHS test at the following link: https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19/testing-and-tracing/get-an-antigen-test-to-check-if-you-have-coronavirus/

What will the PCR test tell me

This test will check for current COVID-19 infection and tell you if you are currently infected.

How does it work

The PCR test detects the genetic material in the virus called RNA. When the sample reaches the lab, a solution known as a ‘reagent’ is added to it. If there is virus present this reagent starts a ‘chain reaction’ and creates billions of copies of the genetic material in the virus so that there is enough that it can be detected and analysed by scientists to provide a positive result. This test is also known as an RNA, genetic, molecular, viral detection or swab test.

Can the test be done at home

The test cannot be done at home to certify fitness to travel. A PCR swab test should ONLY be undertaken by a healthcare professional at Medwyn Occupational Health’s clinic based in Dorking, with validated photographic ID from your passport

How long do test results take to come back

The  laboratory turnaround time is officially 48 hours from receiving your swab in the lab. We have a same day courier service to our UKAS accredited laboratory in London providing you with the confidence and assurance of a high-quality testing service. Results are typically returned inside 36-48 hours from your clinic appointment time.

Test results from our (ISO 15189) UKAS accredited laboratory and signed fitness for travel certificate (signed by a UK GMC registered doctor) will be emailed as pdf documents to your registered email account as soon as these are available.

Choosing your appointment date and time

When choosing a COVID-19 PCR appointment check carefully how many hours before departure, or arrival in the destination country you are required to have a negative COVID-19 PCR swab test result.

For example, if you are due to travel on Saturday at 10:30am and are required to have a negative PCR swab test result 72 hours before departure you should book your appointment after 10:30am on the previous Wednesday. If you need guidance, the UK government travel advice website provides detailed country entry requirement information at www.gov.uk/foreign-travel-advice
