PCR Swab Test and Fit for Overseas Travel Certificate from a UK Government approved provider
For individuals needing to travel during the COVID-19 pandemic some overseas destinations have imposed strict requirements for a negative COVID-19 PCR swab test result before travel. Typically a negative result is required 48-96 hours before leaving the UK.
Since 1 January 2021 Fit for Overseas Travel Certificates and a negative COVID-19 PCR laboratory test result can only be issued by a Government approved UKAS registered provider such as Medwyn Occupational Health.
How does it work
The PCR test detects the genetic material in the virus called RNA. When the sample reaches the lab, a solution known as a ‘reagent’ is added to it. If there is virus present this reagent starts a ‘chain reaction’ and creates billions of copies of the genetic material in the virus so that there is enough that it can be detected and analysed by scientists to provide a positive result. This test is also known as an RNA, genetic, molecular, viral detection or swab test.
