Taxi Hackney Carriage, HGV and other Driver Medicals
When you attend your medical appointment please bring:
- A printed copy of the DVLA medical form
- Or, if you are attending for a Hackney Carriage Licence medical, a printed copy of the Local Authority Licensing application form (you can find your medical form online by visiting your Local Authority’s website and searching for ‘Taxi Licensing’)
- Photographic Identification
- Your driving glasses/contact lenses and prescription if applicable
- Details of any ongoing medical conditions plus any medication you are taking
- Medical records as required.
The medical professional conducting your medical will review your medical records based on the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) Group 2 Medical Standards.
The medical examination itself takes approximately thirty minutes to complete and covers the following areas:
- Distant Vision
- Blood Pressure
- Medication
- Physical Health
- Mental Health
- Medical records as required.
The Local Authority that issues your Hackney Carriage Licence, rather than the DVLA, decides who can carry out your medical. Therefore, we strongly advise drivers to check first whether or not any doctor can complete the medical examination, or whether it must be their registered GP.
In addition, some Local Authorities require that the person conducting your medical has access to your medical records. This may need to be requested from your GP surgery in advance of your appointment.
